Municipality background

The name is given by the military airport ( which has been placed at the same location were the polyclinic Jane Sandanski is today, and barracks of Goce Delcev that had been bombarded from Nazi from Germany in April 1941.

As the newest and moderate transporting means, airplanes were the last involved in the traffic in Skopje. The airport was called Skopje and it was located at the end of the town present settlement Aerodrom.

The first traveling airplane landed in Skopje on 15 of June 1928 year. The airplane was a type Potez – 29 and it had 5 passengers.

In 1929 were established airplane links with Thessalonica – Skopje – Belgrade. The time of landing was planed so the merchants and passengers from Thessalonica could save the time.

The Great citizen of Skopje, Antonio Vildovic in 1925 as a fan of
airplaning and first man in the Government bought one French airplane Kaljdran, first civil ( sport ) airplane in kingdom of Yugoslavia.

First pilot was M. Yeroshenko.

In the autumn 1926 year were occurred the first aero meeting that was taking part of military airplanes and suitable happening. These kinds of meetings were organized every year at Zajcev Rid and Aerodrom.

This is an invitation from airport Skopje to the Skopje scientific organization for celebrating of St.Ilija in 1938.

From 1924 till 1931 were occurred football games between the neighborhood. The club Slavija was formed from three sport clubs: Yug, Pobeda and Slavija, and they had performed under the name ZKS” Slavija “.

This was the club of Michurin.
